Lotte Fine Chemical announced on the 1st that they have fully adopted a 25% chemical recycled PET content in their 10-liter product of their AdBlue product, EUROX, a first in the industry.
The PET in question is Lotte Chemical's eco-friendly material brand, 'ECOSEED' r-PET product.
Chemical recycled PET refers to clean PET bottles made using chemical recycling technology applied to collected waste PET bottles. Unlike mechanical recycling, which processes plastics physically into new products, chemical recycling breaks down the polymer structure of plastics chemically, converting them into raw materials or chemical products before reprocessing them into plastics.
This technology is globally recognized for maintaining plastic quality throughout repeated recycling processes and for its extensive recyclability, even for colored or contaminated plastics. With the introduction of 'ECOSEED r-PET' made from chemically recycled EUROX, Lotte expects an annual reduction in plastic usage of approximately 210 tons.
EUROX previously transitioned its 10-liter PET bottles from colored to transparent for ease of recycling in 2019, marking a pioneering move in the KOREA domestic AdBlue industry.
A Lotte Fine Chemical spokesperson stated, "We will actively participate in the government's expanded recycled material policy and strive to fulfill our responsibility as a leading brand in the AdBlue industry."
Additionally, EUROX holds the permanent trademark for 'AdBlue,' an international quality standard set by the German Automotive Industry Association, and has maintained the top position in domestic sales for 15 consecutive years (based on Ministry of Environment data) and in the AdBlue sector of Korea Industrial Brand Power Survey (K-BPI) for 5 consecutive years.
AdBlue is an additive used in diesel vehicles' SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems, aiding in the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a major contributor to atmospheric pollution.
